When Barrie Richardson's Theater of the Mind was published in 1999, it drew immediate acclaim from mentalists and magicians, professional and amateur alike, and quickly became a bestseller. In it, Richardson, a longtime professional performer and speaker, exhibited an unerring track record for fashioning astonishing effects and routines, dressed in powerful and engaging presentations and supported by ingenious, practical methods.
In Act Two, Barrie Richardson shows that he has lost none of his gentle thunder. His new book features 54 tricks, ideas and routines, with all the attributes for which his work has become known and admired. Most include full presentations that use humanity, humor and an unfaltering sense of drama, that culminate in feats that are clearly impossible and thoroughly amazing.
Along with some of his most prized routines, Richardson includes valuable examples taken from his professional repertoire of motivational talks for public and business audiences.
I just purchased this yesterday and have only read one effect. I love this already! I havent performed it yet, but the patter REALLY makes it sound as though something supernatural is happening! i can extend this, but there is actually a 25% chance of you being correct. The patter really makes it sound like 1%, I think. When you reveal that thought of color-it seams like real mindreading. This is true mentalism.
4 of 5 magicians found this helpful. Better than 13 steps to mentalism! Report this review Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 24th, 2012This is the best mentalism book that I have ever read! Okay, so why are you really buying this book? For the any cand at any number in which you dont touch the cards-right. Here are the details: The card box is gimmicked in a way that nobody can detect. I actually prefer to do it without the card box. The move is so subtle, that I can make the specter do it unknowingly! The specter really does deal the cards. The preparation takes a while, but there are no gimmics. I like to start the effect as mind reading, which points them in the right direction. When you ask them to name a card, the selection is basically free, but the cant name the kink of diamonds, and for that matter, a queen is difficult aswell. I usuall go without the king of diamonds and replace it with a joker. They can choose almost any number at all. I would give this effect 5 stars.
As for the rest of the book: awesome. Reading minds:
Have a spectater write a number. Any number at all. Bettween one and whatever. They place it in there pocket while you back is turned. You can slowly and surely read there thoughts and prove yourself to be correct.
(the obove effecct can be occomplisheddd with the methods in the above book, but that presentation is not directly stated)
It teaches several versions of the center tear(no, there is no tearing in the above effect!) How to tell how much money is in the spectaters hands without looking, The first effect in the book being how the spectater sorts out the reds and black cards themselves, and much, much more!
